The Skipper
Welcome to Luma, Welcome on board
"I'm Jon KepaAguirrezabalagaAzanza, knows as Txonpe. I was born in 1961 in Zumaia. As a child, my passion was the sea. I was lifeguard on the beach of Intzurun and one of the first people who brought surfing to Gipuzkoa in the 1980s.
As a result of a couple of heavy blows with the surfboard I decided to stop surfing and the board that accompanied me for years was transformed into who is now my faithful travel companion; a sailing ship of 12 metres length called Luma, which is Basque, means feather.
I define myself as a solitary navigator, and I am passionate about finding simple solutions with the resources available to the problems that may arise in any type of vessel. My hobby,is to read the clouds and navigate with dolphins.
I have worked as a professional skipper in the MediterraneanSea: specifically, in the Balearic Islands, in Denia, Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily, Turkey, Greek Islands and Croatia. Today, I give advise on the preparation of navigation routes and specific techniques to people who want to sail in other different seas from theBay of Biscay.
Among many vessel transportations, I would highlight the followings: Canary Islands-Zumaia, Canary Islands-Cuba, England-Zumaia, and Barcelona-Canary Islands.
With more than 25 years of experience in navigation, in this stage of my life what I enjoy most is teaching. Teaching allows me to communicate the knowledge and experience to people who are willing to learn sailing as a way of enjoyment or even as a professional path.
I am a lover of the Bay of Biscay; it is my homeland and I encourage you to come on board to discover the interesting treasures that are only possible to access by sea. They are the pearls of a coast that even today, for many remains unknown."
